Yellow Dog Van Adventures and The Revel Club are going to Big Bend! Due to the distance between remote campgrounds, this trip is limited to 3 vans per session. You must be a member of The Revel Club to attend.
Session 1 – Sunday, April 23 through Wednesday, April 26
Session 2 – Thursday, April 27 through Sunday, April 30
This trip is primarily along unimproved roads. Ability to air up/air down, familiarity of 4wd operation, off-grid camping, and basic vehicle recovery is assumed.
Day one – meet in Terlingua at 8 am. Get radios, head into the park. Drive down Old Maverick Road. Stop at Santa Elena Canyon for a short hike/sightseeing, then travel on River Road to our campsite for the evening along the Rio Grande. River Road is 51 miles and provides amazing views of both the Chisos Mountains and the Rio Grande that you won’t find anywhere else. Group dinner provided.
Day two – continue on River Road. Stop at Mariscal Mine for some sightseeing and a break. Short stop at Rio Grande for gas/provisions if needed. Check out the Boquillas Hot Springs. Turn onto Old Ore Road and go about 5 miles to our campsite for the evening and Ernst Tinaja. Group dinner provided.
Day three – Old Ore Road. Once we’ve made it to the end of Old Ore, we’ll take a paved road to our final campsite at Grapevine Hills. Balanced Rock is a short hike from the campsite. Group dinner provided.
Day four – breakfast form the griddle and wrap up, then you’re on your own if you want to explore Chisos Basin nearby or other parts of the park, or get a start back home.
